The soundtrack from... - New music for baritone saxophone and piano

Tonight, November 14 2012 at 7:30pm, pianist Braden Young and I will perform a new work for baritone saxophone and piano by composer Leila Lustig.

This work is called “The Soundtrack from...” and we both consider ourselves fortunate to be able to present this during the “Canada Music Week” at the Conservatory of Music. The title of the piece suggests that Leila was inspired by a movie, but which one?

During a phone conversation Leila explained that this work was composed as a program music piece, but she was reluctant to give away what that program was. The audience is asked to imagine from which movie this music could be, but not to worry, Leila assured me that one can also simply relax and enjoy this work in an abstract way.

Some of her earlier compositions for the saxophone have been performed and recorded by the Amherst Saxophone Quartet; especially her “Lament on the Death of Music” has been well received and can be heard here:  http://amherstsaxophonequartet.com/content/lament-death-music-leila-lustig

I look forward to seeing you there!
